Anatomy of a Book Press Release (+ a Free Template Download!)

A book press release announces the publication of a new book. The goal of a book press release is to generate interest in the book and to encourage media outlets to cover it. The press release should be written in a clear and concise style, and be free of errors in grammar and spelling. It should also be well-organized, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.

It is typically sent to media outlets, including newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs, and radio and television stations, as well as included with book mailings to reviewers and journalists.

In general, a book press release should include the following information:

  • The title of the book
  • The author’s name
  • The publisher’s name
  • The release date of the book
  • A brief synopsis of the book
  • A quote from the author
  • A photo of the book cover and author headshot
  • Contact information for the publicist, author, and publisher
